Independence Food Basket Guidelines

Revised - 04/2010 1. The Independence Food Basket provides food to individuals and families residing in the Independence area. The amount of food provided to a family is based on the size of the family.

2. In order to receive food, a consumer is required to provide proof of his or her identity, proof of their current address, and the social security number and date of birth for each person in the home receiving food. Each time they are encouraged to explore other food options we have available for them.

3. If it is determined that the consumer has falsified any information, the request for assistance will be denied and the consumer will not be allowed to request further assistance for a period to be determined by the Community Access Center Board.

4. Before receiving food a fourth or subsequent time within a twelve month period the consumer will be strongly encouraged to complete a SNAP (food stamp) application and attend a class on food budgeting. They will also be asked to visit with a minister of the community who will confirm the need for additional assistance.

Standard Motors has collected at least a total of 1,305 pounds of donated items for the Independence Food Basket food drive. Wow! What an awesome job. They also collected pet food for AWOL this year.
